GASi Fund
In recent years, the GASIF committee – the philanthropic arm of GASI – has published a couple of pieces in Contexts about its work. We decided to include a more regular bulletin. This is prompted by two promising developments: GiftAid for UK taxpayers and secondly, the new website. The hope and aim is that both will increase the consciousness in members of their role in improving GASI in a number of ways. Namely by making donations towards bursaries to expand the number of those attending GASI events from near and more distant lands; by contributing towards or promoting projects that need financial backing and lastly, by making it more feasible through membership subsidies, for people to take up membership of GASI. At least, that is what is in our minds for the time being. It may that, in time, GASI may be able to support training more directly. You may have other ideas for how donations could be put to good group analytic use.
News for this quarter
- Gift Aid is nearly up and running. This will apply not only to donations by UK taxpayers but also to their membership fees because GASI is a charity. This will add 20 % of these to both GASI and GASIF.
- Development of the new website is progressing well and due for completion in the coming months. There will be increasing opportunities to donate and in different ways. That is, it will be possible more easily to direct donations to particular areas or projects.
- GASIFund made a small contribution last year to some editing advice for Viv Harte for the GA History book she is working on. Progress is good and publication by Karnac Books is due at the end of this year with all royalties, thanks to Viv, coming to GASIF.
- The relationship between GASI and GASIF is being continually clarified and understood. A simple cause for some confusion has been the name “GASIF” itself: say it out loud and you can hear that it might be difficult to distinguish “GASI” from “GASIF” especially on zoom. “GASIFund” might be the best we can come up with.
Please do send us any ideas you may have about that, the name, or indeed, other ideas especially for Group Analytic projects, or questions about any of the above.
Current GASIFund committee members are Francesca Giuseppina Bascialla, Farideh Dizadji, Fiona Parker, Peter Zelaskowski, Sanja Janovic, Vivienne Harte
