President’s Forward

David Glyn

This would have been my last Contexts introduction, if we had followed the traditional practice of holding the Annual General Meeting during the triennial symposium, at which point the baton is passed across to the new President.  This time we decided to hold the AGM in October, to give the committee time to recover from organising the conference before we prepare for the AGM.  As an online meeting, it will be more accessible for those who are not attending the symposium. It will be on Sunday October 15th, 2 pm UK time.

One of the issues that we will bring to the AGM concerns an increase in membership fees.  These have not gone up for many years and we now need to raise them.  However, we would like the membership to be involved in discussions about how the financial burden should be shared equitably amongst us. I will send a members’ email, outlining the financial picture, before the next Reflective Members Group on Saturday 15th July at 2 pm UK time. I hope that many members will be able to attend the RMG to help us to think about this, before we get to make decisions at the AGM.

We also have a Seasonal Gathering on Saturday 23rd September at 2 pm UK time where we can come together and discuss issues.

It’s encouraging that individuals are indicating that they wish to join the Management Committee.  Nomination papers will be sent out 100 days before the AGM and need to be returned at least 40 days before.

Since I have one more Introduction to deliver to our wonderful Contexts Editor (before I beam up to the mother ship which has been in orbit for almost 6 years waiting for my return), I shall save the profound thoughts that have accumulated during that time, until then.
