Dear David,

Thank you very much for your dedication during these difficult years to maintain GASI and to open doors to new forms of communication.

There have been such significant changes while you’ve been President of GASI and you and the MC have responded in a containing and practical way that has enabled the Society to survive and to continue changing, adapting to the new paradigm.

Now with our world in the midst of another catastrophic situation, I wish the very best to the new Management Committee.

Carmen

Dear David,

Thank you very much for your letter. I apologize, albeit late, for not being ableto take part in the AGM. I had planned to participate, but a sudden emergency prevented me from attending at the last minute.

The change in the composition of the committee occurred, indeed, at a difficult and tragic time. I follow the events in Israel with pain for the long-suffering people of this country and with anxiety for the future, which multiplies wars on our planet.

I want to thank you for your responsible and competent work as president of GASI. Leadership in our time has become a difficult and thankless task. It is not surprising that it is not easy to find a replacement for this post. I think you were able to preserve and maintain a container in which important and meaningful group work took place. I look forward to seeing you at future GASI events!

Best regards,

Taras Levin.

Dear David,

I thank you for your message.

You have been ‘presiding’ at a time of change, and I have appreciated your many efforts to keep (before folk) a spirit of curiosity: what does a leadership role look like, and what sort of phantasies might we carry about any individual coming/going forward towards – or into – such a role.

On a technical level, I feel there are misunderstandings (abounding) about the difference between a polite, unincorp Soc with Pres/Treas/Sec plus advisory Committ and friendly members of various ilks AND an incorp CIO, managed by (jointly&severally liable) trustees, quasi directors if you will, with voting members. There are psychological ramifications to this institutional transition, imo, the wide extent & full import of which are unfolding all around. (A more litigious atmosphere, for starters.)

It is telling that two co-facilitators have emerged. I’m reminded of Skynner’s work, and published cases, of co-led Couples Counselling group sessions. Peace may yet come.

So. Farewell then –

My Captain

E j Thribb

Dear David,

Thank you for the information. It has been reassuring to know you led this society.

Wishing all members- old and new- of the committee ease and clarity in taking the work forward during such troubled times.

Warmly,

Safwa.

Dear David,

As you said in the email that you sent at the end of your presidency, it is indeed difficult to hold our international associations in these times when terrible violent conflicts are affecting many of our members,

Building a new team after the changes at the AGM, when several people came to the end of their term of office and new members have joined, is an additional challenge, in this context, for the management committee. To have Marit & Vivienne as Co-Chairs of the Committee seems a good idea: they are very thoughtful and competent colleagues! I am the Co-Chair in another Italian Group psychotherapy Association and I find it useful to share the burden of the responsibility.

Dear David, because of the pandemic, we have not had many opportunities to meet each other in person but I know how important your work as President of GASi has been and how important the long association between Gasi and EGATIN has been and I want to thank you for that!

Warm wishes,

Marina

Importance: High

Dear David,

I appreciate your information. I wish to thank you for your admirable work and commitment in the past years as a GASI president. It will not be easy to find a comparable replacement and I hope you will stay to help.

Best wishes for the next years

Dear David!

I really appreciate your being on that uneasy position.

You were really democratic as I think.

Thank you!

It was nice to meet you in Saint Petersburg and to talk with you. It might be that we will meet somewhere again in future.

Take care, please!

With kind regards,

Dear David,

Thanks for the update, and thanks for the years that you dedicated to our Society. I know from my experience how it is difficult to organise such an important Society, especially in such burdened times of the pandemic, wars and horrendous terrorist attacks.

I hope that you will be at disposition with advice and other types of participation to help Marit and Vivienne to be interim presidents.

Wishing you all the best,

Ivan
