Franz Fanon – 1921-1965: SIG Reading Group

In the light of the work over the last few years reflecting on the need to think about racialisation, power and identity, I would like the opportunity to read and study Franz Fanon’s work together with others. This would provide an opportunity to learn from him and discuss his work as it relates to our current experiences. He is the first Black, psychoanalytic psychiatrist to apply these theories to racism and politics and also to the need to decolonise both socially and also psychologically.

The current wars in Ukraine and Israel/Palestine use violence in a way that is abhorrent to many and yet Fanon describes acts of violence as liberating! Are his ideas being misused or misunderstood.

The current start date is November 18th. when we will look at some articles about him and understand more about his short life and the context within which he developed his ideas. After that we will read Black Skins White Masks and Wretched of The Earth.

The meetings will be well spaced to allow time to read and the group will be limited to 25 people as we will be working on zoom.

Do please respond to this email, sue.einhorn@talk21.com if it is a commitment you would like to undertake.
