The End of the World

Theresa Flacke

It’s the end of the world

When war beaks out

Worse than any nightmare

You cannot believe your eyes

You did not imagine

How bad this might be

The mind would not go here

Now you cannot deny

It’s the end of the world

When you are hungry

The food has dried up

You wait in queues Nothing comes

You remember your grandparents

Talking of when they were hungry

You did not know until now

What is was they talked of

It’s the end of the world

You say goodbye to loved ones

You watch them go

torn between pride or fear

It’s the end of the world

You cannot believe

The world has let this happen

Maybe there really is no God

It’s the end of the world

And all you can do is cry

But you do not have time to weep

Children to care for ….you gaze at them

As they sleep….
